Oaklands School House
South Ridge has the privilege of being the home of one of Douglas County's rich pieces of history! "The one-room schoolhouse was built in 1899 on the present-day corner of Highway 105 and Wolfensberger Road...the district decided to move the buildings for two main reasons. 'The first reason is to preserve the history of Douglas County and show youngsters what school was like in those days. The other reason is to give the carpentry class a worthwhile project.' The completed schoolhouse will serve as a museum and a teaching model for students. The schoolhouse, called Oakland School, was actually its own district. Fifteen to twenty students a year attended until it closed in 1958. Former students were contacted by the district to describe the schoolhouse in full detail." (Newspaper clipping from Castle Rock)
